Power outage causes Moose Z900 to alarm.
« on: December 23, 2010, 01:38:08 PM »
We just bought a house that came with a Moose Z900 alarm system.  This week we had a power failure in our town that lasted about 2 hours.  My wife said shortly after the power went off the smoke detectors and key pads all started alarming.  Looking in the manual and online threads I had her try to arm then disarm the system, hold the 7 key in for three seconds, and press and hold the * key.  Nothing would silence the alarm.  I rushed home from work to hear the high pitched beeping as soon as I pulled in the drive way.  I then went to the main control panel box and unplug the battery backup.  That took care of everything except the smoke detectors.  So I removed the 9 volt batteries from those and the house was finally quiet again.  As I was showing my wife what I did the power came back on... go figure.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way (other than the chaos described above) to silence the alarm in the event that this happens again.

Thanks in advance for the help.
Phil

The smoke alarms have nothing to do with the security system.  They are not connected.

The security system was probably indicating AC power loss and/or low battery.  If the system battery is more than 4-5 years old, it's probably overdue for replacement.

For silencing the keypad sounder, you press the * key (see user manual page 10 (http://www.peakalarm.com/Manuals/Z900%20user.pdf))

if your system crashes during a blackout with a ups, then the ups is not up to the task.

what is the model of your ups?
