DSC 5010 Yellow Light 1.3.
« on: March 16, 2019, 01:41:49 PM »
Greetings - I have a DSC 832. I have the Escort 5580 and the intercom modules too. Recently, I noticed I can't access the DSC from my home phone... but I can from an external line. I get a fast busy sound after entering the first two digits of the access code on the phone. (***) I haven't had any issues on this system and there have been lightning storms lately. I did notice a broken diode on the 5580, so I replace the board. Still have a yellow light I can't clear and no access from local phone. Everything else works, it will call out, it sets with no issues.

You will need to go to the keypad and press *2 to get into view trouble conditions.

Report back to us what the troubled condition is and we can go from there.

I have 3 keypads. One give a 1 code followed by a 3 code (when I press the 1 again.

The LCD keypad says General system trouble. It does not give a code.

I went into programming mode and entered 902 waited a minute then ## out. I entered 903 and verified installed devices. The yellow light is still on.

My config is: Three keypads, 5010, 5204 Additional Power unit, added zones modual 9-16, 5580 Escort, 5928 intercom. This has been installed for 20 years without a issue.

When using the local phone for access, I get a fast busy. I think this switch comes from the 5010. Maybe that is where my failure is?

Guess I could reduce the config to minimum and see what happens...

If I replace the 5010 board... is there an upgrade that allows newer features?

*2 gives me a lit number 1 on the keypad. When I then press number one (for more detail) I get #3 lit.

The 3 means "system trouble" Try disconnecting all modules and hookup one keypad. Do the 902 thing then add things back in one at a time with the 902 each time. Check for a green light without the yellow each time.

Light [3] - General System Trouble. This trouble will be present if the PC5204 Power Supply module has an AUX
failure, PC5204 Output #1 Trouble, or a printer connected to the PC5400 Printer module has a fault (off-line).

If Output #1 is unused: Ensure that terminals O1, AUX are jumpered with 1K resistor (Brown, Black, Red)
If Output #1 is used: Disconnect wire leads from O1, AUX terminals, measure the resistance of the wire leads - Open circuit indicates a break in the wiring

Verify voltage measured across AC input terminals is 16-18VAC.
Disconnect all connections to PC5204 AUX terminal. - Verify AUX voltage is 13.70 - 13.80 VDC.

Thanks Mike - Here my feedback:

Light [3] - General System Trouble. This trouble will be present if the PC5204 Power Supply module has an AUX
failure, PC5204 Output #1 Trouble, or a printer connected to the PC5400 Printer module has a fault (off-line).

No Printer Installed

If Output #1 is unused: Ensure that terminals O1, AUX are jumpered with 1K resistor (Brown, Black, Red)

Output #1 is jumpered with said resistor
Output #2 is connected to strobe light (which is working)

If Output #1 is used: Disconnect wire leads from O1, AUX terminals, measure the resistance of the wire leads - Open circuit indicates a break in the wiring
I swapped with ne resistor

Verify voltage measured across AC input terminals is 16-18VAC.
Voltage is 16.8VAC

Disconnect all connections to PC5204 AUX terminal. - Verify AUX voltage is 13.70 - 13.80 VDC.
Voltage is 13.7VDC

Both batteries check out at 12+ volts while disconnected

The new Escort 5580 is a 5580TC verses the 5580 that had a popped diode on it.

I disconnected the 5580 and ran 902 and the yellow light stays on.
I disconnected the intercom module, ran 902 and still have the yellow light

Yes, there is a jumper between TAM and BLK. I pulled it and reinstalled for good measure.

Try removing the 5204 from the keybus, 902 / 903, and check to see if the trouble clears (which it should).  Then reconnect the 5204 and 902 / 903 again to re-enroll it and see if the trouble comes back.

Thanks for the reply - I removed the four key-bus wires from the 5204 then ran 902, then 903 to insure it was gone. The device was gone from the config, but the yellow light did not clear. I reattached the key-bus wires and ran 902....check 903 to be sure it was re-added... still have the yellow light.

Did you take everything off except one keypad?
