Title: Best Alarm system
Post by: mike822 on August 13, 2015, 08:35:04 AM
folks

i'm signing up with alarmrelay and they recommend the honeywell L5200 but I guess they also work with other panels. Which is considered the best panel these days? I work in IT so can get around programming, etc but want the flexibility. Even though I'm signing up for the internet-based service with alarm panel, I'm wondering if I can insert my own SIM card and have alerts sent to me directly too. I also plan to use z-wave at home

Thanks

That's like asking which car is best or which bear is best... There is no answer except Bears beats Battlestar Galactica.

I like the Vista 20p.. The Lynx series is the all-in-one lower end version of that system.

If you are looking for future expandability I would go with:

Vista 21iP control (has internet communicator built in)
6160RF keypad
Envisalink3 control module.
If you want home automation and a fancy touch screen look at the Tuxedo Touch Wifi.

I'm not 100% sure that you can have both internet and GSM at the same time on either system...

DSC 1832 / 1864 has a dual-path communicator, thus giving 3 paths possible.
Honeywell Vista series.
GE Concord 4 which comes with a receiver.

These are the top 3 brands and models in use today.

Mike: Does the Vista series support any dual path comms other than telco +LRR?

I'm a "Chevy" man myself (AKA: DSC).  With Honeywell, on their website, they list a commercial grade dual-path communicator, the iGSMV4G.
